UK-German Connection promotes cultural exchange and language learning between the UK and Germany. This project is run jointly by the German Embassy and the British Council and includes initiatives to connect together schools in both countries as well as young people with different experiences, projects and other opportunities.

The site has three main sections, divided into secondary school age, primary age and professionals & parents. The website is loaded with resources and experiences (both in the site pages and integrated from social media channels). A database of funding opportunities is integrated with the site, and young people can use a dedicated applications system to apply for bursaries to travel to the UK or Germany and stay with a host family.

This project is a good example of our practice in digital sustainability. We first launched the site in 2005, and have been working with UK-German Connection since then to keep its digital presence current and relevant, without the need for huge financial investment. The site’s third refresh launched at the end of 2019.
